DJI MAVIC 2 PRO HLG DLOG USELESS?!

We were about to do a video stating that HLG and DLOG color profiles were useless on the new DJI Mavic Pro 2, but as we were testing to proof it, something happened. What do you think?

DLog is actually about maximizing the dynamic range, especially in the shadows. 4:2:0 subsampling is not fighting against this. I totally agree that you will not get any benefit from DLog with the scenes you've showed. Theres no point in having DLog activated all the time. However the interesting comparison would be if you can capture more dynamic range with DLog compared to normal style with contrast set to -3.

You can see a difference, but not enough to make a big fuss about. Nonetheless, it does look a bit better. If camera quality is that important for your shoots, get an inspire

sigh clearly you have never heard of or used proxies before for editing which you would use for high end camera footage, you don't need a high end computer to use proxies. As for lens distortion, there is not enough cpu/memory bandwidth to do that in real-time for 10 bit colour. The same "problem" exists on the inspire 2. I'm quite happy with the onboard CPU spending 100% of its time getting the highest possible IQ and leaving lens distortion to post production (which will do a better job)

Yes you're right about the Dlog is needed in post processing for color correction and color grading. Also Dlog is great for matching with other cameras with "flat" gamma. But is a proven fact that 8bit will easily fall apart in heavy grading and/or selective grading vs 10bit.

Before watching this video I was wondering if dlog is really worth it when you can get very decent shots by just using normal. Thanks for the video, now I won't bother trying so master dlog or hlg editing for this drone footage.

Thanks guys! Very important information posted in this video. Looking forward for the comparison 4K HQ vs 4K FOV. My tests show a pretty much significant difference.
